Sin Rumbo Milonga : 7th Dance Championship 2009

nota4

Who can introduce Sin Rumbo better than the organizer Julio Duplàa?

Do you know Sin Rumbo?  Well, better said … Do you know the most popular friday’s milonga (the Cathedral of Tango).

Is a milonga where you can dance tango pretty well, of course.  Located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires (in the suburb … sounds cool huh?). The floor is a grid where you can slide you in comfort, The place is cool (air conditionated),  respecting the “round”,  is elegant, with individual tables.

The capacity is between 150 to 170 people, no more, because the place is to dance tango, not to hit each other (do you understand?).

Let me explain:The palce is for dance tangos, milongas and waltzes, a little jazz and rock and roll, just the good one, to make “good milonga” (that’s the way i like it).

Ah … eats well, July Medrano is the barman (he knows) best.  Oscar Marce is the DJ.

I see you on the dance floor.

You’ll have a great time there…

JULIO DUPLÀA, at Cancionero.net

Claude Murga and Junio Cervil athey  chosed Julio’s milonga to celebrate their birthdays!

2xtango also wish them a wonderful birthday!

Lets talk about of Sin Rumbo…

Founded in 1919 by young people in the neighborhood of Villa Urquiza who had the idea of creating a club but they failed to collect funds needed. History tells us that those girls went to the Hippodrome looking for luck and agreed that if they earned something they will buy a land for the  club. The horse who had played was called ‘Sin Rumbo’, hence the name that takes the club.

The mid 20’s tango had grown strongly in Buenos Aires and in Villa Urquiza, and created its own dance style, and many famous couples emerged from there.  That’s why in 1968 the tango enviroment named it the “Tango Cathedral”

Sin Rumbo gave home to the great orchestras and performers from the prestigious urban music from the 40s and forward, as John D’Arienzo, Carlos Di Sarli, Carlos Varela, Alberto Castillo, Roberto Florio and Jorge Casal.

Also went through the Club dancers such as Maria Nieves, Juan Carlos Copes and Miguel Angel Soto.

The mission of  the club is to recover the tango to new generations, where young people can learn about dance, the slang, the plays of the time trying to generate a generational approach where the grandson talk to its grandfather about tango.

Currently at the club also operates a center for retirees, an organization of tourist trips and activities for seniors.

Club is proud, it being the place where Robert Duvall filmed the movie “Assassination Tango”, and where the actor has learned to dance.
